What began as an idea to get more people swimming, dreamed up by Armidale local James Harwood, has grown into a much-loved weekend event bringing people together through swimming, community and, of course – a little bit of cold water.
The Sunday K takes its inspiration from Parkrun. The difference? Instead of lacing up your joggers for 5km run, you opt for the cossies and dive in for a 1km swim.
Held every Sunday in Armidale at Monckton Aquatic Centre in Spring/Summer and The Armidale School in Autumn/Winter, The Sunday K has become a regular fixture for swimmers of all abilities.
And one person who’s been there since the very beginning is our Director, Matt Meehan.
A keen swimmer, Matt is one of The Sunday K’s founding members and still gets in the pool each week.
That’s what we love about living and working in regional communities – what started with a small group of locals has continued to grow, with Sunday K swims now also taking place in Guyra and Inverell – and growing!
This year, we’re very proud to support The Sunday K as a sponsor.
